Snow & Church

We have had two winter storms in two weeks. Our area is not equiped to deal with this level of snow and ice nor the power outages we've had (as I write this, there are still people without power). So, we have had to cancel our church services two consecutives weeks. That is three cancellations this winter. This sort of circumstance is virtually unheard of in our area.
The biggest thing I have come to realize is how much I miss getting together with my family. I mean my church family. We have a love and care for each other that is special. I have been in contact with all of the families and individuals who make up our church family during this period of time, but, being together to worship, pray, examine the word of God, and even to joke and play, is so much a part of who I am as a Christian, that I need to see Jesus in my brothers and sisters in Christ each week.
How important is the Sunday fellowship? What level of significance does it make? According to the Word of God, it is very important. In Acts 20:7, Luke writes, "We came together on the first day of the week to break bread...," NIV. The custom of the early church was to assemble on Sunday to worship God together. Hebrews 10:25 says, "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching," NIV. The importance of meeting together with our family is critical. Because we are able to share our love of God with the family. We are able to be encouraged by the faith and hope of others. We can worship together in praise, lift our voices together with others and make a joyful noice of praise to God. We can find solace and peace from troubles because of the exhortation of others.
Being forced to miss church, due to the weather, has made me see just how important it is to me and every Christian who is in love with the Lord.
See you Sunday, Jeff
